You can have your blog on any of free Blog providing services like WordPress, Blogger, Livejournal, and MovabalType. Usually most of the users who want to start their first blog end up with blog on these free blogging services and then realizes the need of own domain name with blogging platform of their own choice.

If your blogging service allows you to export your blog posts, comments in format which is supported in your choice of blogging platform then it would be easier to move your blog but this is not the case like blogger doesn’t allow to you to import WordPress post.

Keeping these points in mind Google Data Liberation team has started a new open source project named as Google Blog Converters.This new Open Source project provides the ability to easily move blog posts and comments from service to service. Currently this project is being implemented in Python Libraries and Executable scripts which converts between the export formats of Blogger, LiveJournal, MovableType, and WordPress.
